LENGTHY roadworks are beginning this week as part of plans for "improvements" to one of Caldicot’s main roads.

Monmouthshire County Council and contractors Horan Construction will be carrying out the next stage of works on Church Road, between Chepstow Road and the Taff Road roundabout.

The council said disruption would be "kept to a minimum" but the project is not expected to be finished until the summer.

Residents could face some road closures over the coming months, and a parking area near the entrance to the village’s country park will be available.

The project is in response to "priorities" locals raised during a 2020 public consultation, the council said.

These priorities comprised parking availability during school drop-off and pick-up times, narrow pavements, traffic speeds, and road crossings.

The council said the project "delivers improvements on all of these issues".

Information about traffic management and any road closures "will be shared in advance", the council added.

The project will include the construction of new pavements and kerbs, "better drainage with rain gardens and additional gullies", a resurfaced road, and "raised tables and buildouts to reduce traffic speed".

The council will also host fortnightly community drop-in sessions at Caldicot Library, beginning on Tuesday, April 25, 10am-midday.
