Captain’s Column

In a new addition for this season, every week Pontypool captain Luke Dyckhoff will take you exclusively inside the Pooler dressing room.

"Where else to start but our victory over Beddau last weekend?

It was brilliant for the team to come together as they did in our first competitive match and play some fantastic rugby. We worked very hard for our six tries but there could certainly have been more.

As a group we were, as already mentioned, very happy with the result.
However there was definitely a feeling of 'there's more in the tank', not disappointment per se, but certainly a feeling we can continue to improve.

In a technical aspect, the “to work ons” are likely to be the contact area, where we turned over more of our own ball than we would have liked, and perhaps a need to show a bit more composure when we are on the front foot.

We must make sure we are clinical when there are opportunities to gather points.

Without stating the abundantly obvious, it is an extremely exciting time to be a part of Pontypool.

Having gained a strong victory first up, with lots of things to tweak and improve, all involved cannot wait for this weekend.

Lastly, I'd like to thank the supporters that travelled to Beddau last weekend. You were fantastic - It certainly helped give us an edge.

As a result, the boys are all hugely excited to play our first game at the Park and are hoping for a large and vociferous home crowd.

We hope to see you all there!"
