Sudbrook 1sts (270-5) beat Pentyrch (269 all out) by 5 wickets
SUDBROOK Firsts helped title-chasing rivals Chepstow by beating Pentyrch in a tight encounter at Mill Lane, writes Bob Cypher.
After Sudbrook skipper Jamie Watkins won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first, openers Lewis Coates and Jamie Mills put on 70 before Coates was clean bowled by Dean Wallace.
Mills went on to make 116 before being caught in the slips by Scott O’Leary and despite a 42-run contribution by Jack Lewis, Wallace and Kel Stevens took two wickets apiece with Mitchell Slape ripping through the middle order to end with 4-62 and one maiden in his 10 overs as Pentyrch posted 269 all out.
In reply, Sudbrook lost Ross Lewis for a duck but fellow opener Mathew Kinchin and Mattie Jones raised the total to 53 before Jones fell for 11.
That brought Scott O’Leary to the crease and he and Kinchin put on 109 for the third wicket, Kinchin being ruled lbw on 99 while O’Leary went on to finish undefeated on 119.
James Hussey chipped in with 15 and O’Leary and Matt Burton saw Sudbrook home with eight balls to spare.
