A MAN died after being hit by a train in Caldicot on Tuesday afternoon.
British Transport Police officers were called to the line at Caldicot level crossing, Pill Row, at 4.14pm.
Paramedics also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A British Transport Police spokesman said the incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
Inquiries are ongoing to establish the man's identity and the full circumstances of the incident, including how the man came to be on the tracks. A file will be prepared for the coroner.
The train involved was the 3.45pm service from Cardiff Central to Nottingham.
Services from South Wales to Cheltenham were stopped while the incident was investigated.
